The Oven of Aknai

Based on a story appearing in the Talmud (Bava Metzia 59b), The Oven of Aknai focuses on a rabbinic debate over the purity of an oven, but when the argument becomes too heated, what starts as a kitchen fire spreads to the whole world. This workshop production is a collaboration between founders Rabbi Nicole Fix and Rabbi Bronwen Mullin. Directed by Elianna Boswell. Join us for our contemporary take on this ancient tale.

The Rabbinic Arts Fellowship

The Rabbinic Arts Fellowship brings a cohort of female identified and non-binary Jewish Artists together in text study and contemporary performance practice. Fellows meet several times throughout the year to study, discuss, and interpret a text using classical rabbinic approaches as well as modes innovated by scholars and schools of underrepresented identities.

Over the course of in-person retreats in the Catskills fellows will develop performance pieces in response to the studied text. The fellowship culminates with a public presentation of the new work with opportunities to discuss their process and connect with local community members, building and innovating upon the historic Jewish artistic community in the Catskills for a new generation.
